Mirror Trick

I'm reeeallllllyyyyy sleepy and I have to be at work early tomorrow morning, so there won't be a long explanation for this one.

I guess it's sort of a simple split screen. I tried doing a split earlier, but then I realized that when the physical side of me left the room, the color changed slightly. Not enough to really notice, but there was a jarring and obvious difference with the half with the mirror. So I had to roto around the mirror so the color change wouldn't be as obvious. The times are a little off in the acting, but it was as close as I could get without anybody helping me. All-in-all, this took about 15 minutes to crank out XD!

Diesel Power Animation!!

Here's the new assignment!

The image used is by Kippery.

And the link to the original artwork can be found here.

A lot of steps went into making this particular piece. I had to go in and basically cut the image up, deleting the background entirely and giving each object its own layer. For the plane (since the pilot's head was in front of it) I had to draw that in, and I tried really hard to make it look like the original, but you can't even really tell because I put motion blur on it...

I had to make my own background that looked like worn paper like the original was drawn on, so that was done in photoshop as well. Everything was arranged and it all fell into place surprisingly well in After Effects. I was so happy with how it all turned out that I worked extra hard on adding a bunch of little features and details (which might be lost in the small encoding size).

Kippery's one of my most favorite DA artists. Her artwork is so cool XD! If y'all get a chance, y'all should check out her gallery! It's amazing!!!

Animals~!

Not really relevant to Ben's class, but here's a fun animation of some animals I did for Geoff's class that I spent the better part of my afternoon working on.

Also, this song is stuck in my head now:

Scott Pilgrim Animation

Yay! Here it is!

Scott Pilgrim Animation from Kachi Riggs on Vimeo.
Okay. So. I was gonna upload the animations I did for last week's assignment, but I didn't realize it took Vimeo over two hours to upload a ten second clip. So here are some screenshots.

The coolest comic book in the world right now is Scott Pilgrim. I did a little animation of him based off of this picture.

I went into photoshop and deleted the background and stuff to make it an alpha layer. For the background in the video, I found picture online of comic book speedlines, made it a 'multiply' layer in photohsop, and added a gradient behind it to help it look a little like the original illustration. It ended up being kind of a hack job.

Using the Pupper Pin Tool in After Effects, I placed a series of joints on the picture where I wanted him to move. I was surprised that AE somehow configured it so the arm and hand went above the head. Anyway, the animation is of Scott doing this pointing motion and some headbanging. It would've looked a lot cooler if I had any sense of time at all and realized that ten seconds goes by really slowly, so the final animation looks a little weird.

So hopefully I'll have the animations up tomorrow, if not later tonight. I also did one using the bug samples from class, but I probably won't upload that one (not if it's going to take over two hours).
